Pine decking

Pine is a popular and cost-effective option when properly treated. We use a minimum H3 CCA-treated pine, which is suitable for outdoor use. Pine is softer than hardwoods, easier to work with, and accepts stains and sealers well. It suits lighter-use decks, covered areas, and projects where budget is a key consideration. Regular sealing and maintenance are essential to ensure longevity.

Hardwood decking

Hardwoods such as Balau, Macaranduba and Garapa offer higher density and durability, making them ideal for exposed decks and high-traffic areas.

Balau is extremely dense and well suited to heavy-duty decking. Macaranduba is known for its rich colour and excellent outdoor performance. Garapa offers a lighter, clean look with good durability and stability. These timbers typically require less frequent maintenance than pine but still benefit from proper sealing.

Midlands conditions matter

In the Midlands, decks are exposed to strong sun, seasonal rain and temperature changes. Timber density, drainage, ventilation and correct installation techniques all affect how well a deck ages. Choosing timber purely on colour or price often leads to disappointment.
